Relief Valve DiagnosticsBenefits of Diagnostic Testing

  • Non-Intrusive Means of Determining Valve Performance and Operability
  • Eliminate Guesswork and Human Error of Where Set Point Occurs
  • Automatically Produce an Accurate and Repeatable Hardcopy Record of Valve Performance
  • Produce Graphic and Numeric Output to Simplify Data Interpretation
  • Provides Historical Data Allowing Component to be Treaded Over Time
  • More Accurate Means of Determing Set Pressure

Valve diagnostics can be done from a number of data inputs

  • Acoustic (Vibration)
  • Pressure
  • Displacement
  • Flow Sensing

Testing is primarily performed on a test stand, but can be done on-line. On-line testing would require lifting the valve to obtain actual set pressure values.

On-line testing can be performed to predict set pressure valves without lfiting the valve

Acoustic data reveals events such as chatter or simmer. By simultaneously capturing the pressure data, a correlation can be made from this information to predict the Set Pressure - This correlation is OEM-specific.

Calculations are determined based on ASME Code requirements.
